How to determine your treatment time with a MED test?

MED (Minimal Erythema Dose) test is a skin reaction test to find the treatment dose/time out. It performs 5 or more applications to check your skin reaction to different UVB light doses.

  • Select the device and your skin type in the calculator to get the results.
  • The test area may be sideward of the arm, abdomen, back or thigh, and other non-lesion skin areas, around which there shall be no skin abnormalities, damages, or pigmentation.
  • Prepare a piece of UV-protected textile (synthetic, tightly woven polyester and/or nanofibers) with equal 5 holes in it.
  • Mark out the position of each hole using a marker pen or by other means. Face the equipment towards the first hole for irradiation covering all other holes.
  • Proceed with the first irradiation time you got from the calculations before. Move to another irradiation area after the previous irradiation is completed with the next calculated time.
  • The dose first causing slight redness on the skin is the dose you can start your treatment with.
  • Check the results the next day.

Precautions

Note, that the test area shouldn’t receive any phototherapy in three weeks before, your skin should be clean and dry, do not wear deodorants, perfume, or aftershave before treatment, you must wear goggles to protect your eyes.

Time calculator

It’s designed for professionals and performs manual enter of the intensity power of the device and dose. The calculator will provide you with treatment time right away.
